Philharmonie by night

A rainy evening, lots of noisy tourists and a concert at Philharmonie. Just another Wednesday evening...

Winter feeling around Potsdamer Platz

Winter is not officially here, but I feel the cold getting worse and more warm clothing are needed. I visited Potsdamer Platz last week, around 11.00 and the sky was grey. Honestly, did not see a serious ray of light for a couple of weeks. The snow slope is ready and the winter fairs were already open, even though it is more than one month before the holiday season is officially open. At that time of the day, there were not too many people around, but most probably during the weekend and late in the evening, the tourists will be tempted to have their hot wine and their currywurst in one of the most elegant corners of the city - to be read where money is made.

As usual, I am fascinated by the combination of kitsch and innovation that this city can display. Nothing has to do with style here, but with the aggressive freedom of doing what you want to, even it means to shock visually the sophisticated European eyes. A kind of small America in the middle of Europe.

Maybe the snowman will bring more order around?

Let's sky in Potsdamer Platz

Early visitors at 11 o'clock

Never too early for a little drink in the morning

The game of geometry continues

Everyting goes round and round and round

Even the trees need some artificial light

Lauras Stern, world premiere in Berlin

Yesterday was a very busy day for me and one of my priorities was to find a good children movie. CinemaxX in Potsdamer Platz is always a good option, because you can fill the idle time of waiting with a walk and some nice cookies. Right at the entrance, it was a red carpet - not for me, of course - for the guests attending the world premiere of the children' movie Lauras Stern und die Traummonster, a Warner Bros production. Obviously, the movie theater was full of happy kids and their parents and lots of presents for both of them. Probably I will go to see this movie as well in the very near future. Till then, some pics before the official launch.

The idea of noodles

The offer from Asia Pavilion @Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, open on Sundays

One of the first things I started to practice in Berlin was Noodles. The small - or big - paper cheap (still) boxes stuffed with vegetables and noodles aren't an attribute of poverty but of the busy and hungry life at an affordable price. You can buy them from the U-Bahn stations, from the street, from the big malls and...anyway, isn't so hard to find them and the price is of 2.50 (When I moved, it used to be around 2.15, but, you know we are going through difficult times in Europe). With chicken or fully vegetarian, your dear box will be ready in about 5 minutes and as a busy tourist (the only category very busy in Berlin) you can continue your trip around the city. And it's healthier than a after-work bottle of beer (as many employed and unemployed Berliners do).

Evening eating @Coa

I've been several times at Coa and don't have reasons to complain. The ambiance is fine, the service fast and the food affordable and good (at least the vegetarian dishes I've tried) and the location is great, preferably mostly during the summer when you can admire the busy coming and going around Potsdamer Platz.
Let's have a look at my menu for tonight:
Dim sum/Asian dumplings in bamboo basket with cream cheese - four little ones - 3.50 Euro. Newly introduced on my menu: maybe the dumplings are too small, but tasty. The sauce is interesting to explore also with the noodles.

Thai-style rice band noodles fried with tamarind sauce, spring onions and egg, served with crumbed peanuts, lime and fresh soya shoots - 6.90 Euro. This is what I constantly order and neved had unpleasant surprises. Moderately spicey, good tofu, sweet sauce.

Peach creme with green tea - 2 Euro (obviously, sweets aren't the strong points of Asian cuisine)

Latte macchiato - 1.90 Euro
Regularly, they feature special dishes from Asian countries, the latest trend being two specialities made in Indonesia, whose cuisine is completely unknown to me.
I should go back soon, probably.

Frohsinn Jogurt in the city of Berlin

The kids love frozen jogurt and the local offer in Berlin was far behind the expectations and the high standards we all know. Hard to cheat here!

But today I had a pleasant surprise to discover Frohsinn Jogurt in the close vicinity of Potsdamer Platz (2 minutes from the U-Bahn, 6 from the S-Bahn). Fresh, with lots of natural ingredients, open daily from 11 to 10pm, cheap...And unusually for a German company, with a good presence on social media. Let's hope for the best and although the weather here doesn't encourage the consumption of too many cold products, I am sure that I should prefer to go there as often as possible instead of being annoyed with mean observations about the doubtful quality of my mother-behavior.
