Gourmet tour at Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz may be one of the last places in Berlin where to find top notch food and exclusive prices, but just 5 minutes away from the S-Bahn station, you will find a little paradise for gourmets, at Galeria Kaufhof. The prices vary from moderate to expensive, but the variety of products is very good.

For instance, you can find the finest French and Italian wines, Swiss chocolate, the best samples of Spanish, French - a lot of cheese - and Corsican - plenty of chestnut-based products, Canadian, Italian and Asian cuisines. As a curious cook always looking for more challenges, I've spent a good amount of time wandering around the shelves full of merchandise, trying to understand what the products are about and how can I make the right food combinations. I recognize that at the end of the trip I haven't bought anything, but found a lot of ideas for my cooking inspiration and a lot of topic to do serious research about. Ecological and vegetarian products can be purchased, as well as local breweries - especialy British beers that I have not seen somewhere else, such as Indian Pale Ale, Fuller's Vintage Ale or Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout.

A good destination for anyone looking to buy some special presents or to organize a thematic evening.
